At 22 months old, June was diagnosed with Asperger’s Syndrome, otherwise known as a form of autism. Her lack of attention and responsiveness had bullies targeting her.
Judged even by teachers, she was labelled as ‘A lost cause’.
Even knowing she is an autistic child, her parents were too embarrassed to live with that fact and forced her to work hard and be ‘normal’ like the other students.
“When my dad saw my academic report, I couldn’t hide from him. He wouldn’t stop hitting even after I screamed and bled. Even sometimes there is no dinner for me.” – June
The frequent abuse cornered her in fear of being hit again. It forced June to stay back in school to hide away and catch up on studies.
That was when her principal, Mr. Wright passed by and noticed her bruises.
“When I first saw those marks, I suspected something was wrong. There is no way I’m going to stand by and do nothing.” – Principal Wright
She was brought back to his office to talk about it and although it was her first time entering his office, June immediately fell in love with it.
It turns out she was exposed to the clary sage essential oil which was only meant as an air freshener and it made her feel much calmer. Noticing that June stayed back every day after school, Principal Wright decided to have her use his office space and provided her extra tutoring.
At that point on, June spends every day in his office after class hours. June became laser focused and began picking up new information, even after being taught the very first time.
“I’m even able to understand more complex problems easily – all without getting agitated as I used to.” – June
That day onwards, she would carry the essential oil anywhere she goes. Mr. Wright saw her potential in academic growth a couple of weeks later and became her pillar of support in any way he could almost everyday.
It was then June developed an undying interest in math in every way. Her knack in math led her to compete in the International Mathematical Olympiad. At a young age of 12, she won 1st place against master’s degree holders.
June’s progress even put her at the top 0.1%, in not just her school, but her entire state.
On one regular day, Dr. Thomas Stevens, a neurologist from NASA had caught wind of June’s astounding achievements. He paid a visit to her school and offered her an internship placement knowing that she could contribute to their research team to which she gladly accepted.
When working with her, Dr. Thomas noticed the regular use of the oil and suspected that the essential oil contributed in some way. With permission, June spared Dr. Thomas a sample of the oil so he can conduct further analysis back in his laboratory.
True enough, it contains concentrated amounts of clary sage.
For 9 years, Dr. Thomas have been studying ways to unlock our thinking abilities and he got it.
“This is amazing, this is the chemical component that will connect the dots! The scent of the clary sage’s extract acts as a catalyst that extends to the olfactory bulb for information to process.”
“It links to the cerebral cortex region, a segment strictly responsible in activating and enhancing thinking processes.” – Dr. Thomas
He proceeded to reverse engineer the essential oil. Combined with a specially curated Ayurvedic formula he managed to produce a more potent blend with stress neutralizing properties that ultimately boosts cognitive functions.
Dr. Thomas invited June for a test on the prototype. She was at first sceptical to its capabilities but gave it a go. In first contact, she immediately felt sharp and receptive.
“As an autistic I have trouble keeping on track. Now I experience increased focus and containing my anxiety attacks isn’t much of a problem anymore. I am able to structure my thought processes much faster than before.” – June
Years after, she realized how fortunate she was to have Autrea™. Many others like her experience daily struggles and she wanted to take initiative to change that. With the aid of the National Autism Association, June opened a facility specifically aimed towards the development and support of autism.
“It will provide a safe and favorable space for people with autism and will receive access to Autrea™ as a helping hand.” – June
She named it Wright’s Academic Assistance Support Center (WAASC), all in honor of her school principal for having faith in her capabilities when everyone including herself never did.
June’s life changing journey is just one of the many success stories of Autrea™.
